There was an actual debate/interview with/of Greenspan on Democracy Now! this past Monday in which he was grilled/roasted on such topics as his role in expanding the twin equity and housing bubbles that led to the present U.S.-caused international economic crisis, the arrival of truckloads of stolen dollars from the erstwhile nation of Iraq at the NY Federal Reserve bank, the ridiculous claim in his book that Allende's deposition was the result of Allende's supposed inflationary policies rather than of a CIA-backed coup, and other of the Maestro's atrocities and canards. Now that U.S. industry has been shipped overseas and the credit-based economy of the U.S. is collapsing, Greenspan has rushed his memoir into print, hoping thereby to put a positive spin on his career before it becomes clear to everyone what a pivotal role he has had in the present unfolding disaster. The sight of the young people confronting this pompous troll and the only avowed socialist in the Senate Bernie Saunders (IND-VT) taking Greenspan to task ("Mr Greenspan, I have long been concerned that you are way out of touch...") with a litany of charges for which the 'great man' could have no answers was thrilling. The government of the United States, with the passage of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Reserve_Act , gave over control of its money supply to a team of bankers with a peculiarly powerful chairmanship. Mr Greenspan, a self-described "libertarian Republican" (little 'l', big 'R'), an econo-politic description fully 90% of the population would not describe themselves as, as chairman was able to initaite and carry out neo-liberal economic policy through increasingly desperate monetary measures at the first sign of capitalism's problems: manufacturing and production down, inflate the stock martket: stock market down, inflate the housing bubble; housing down, inflate the monetary supply (this last under Bernanke, a Greenspan wannabe.)
