What: Testimony on Human Rights Violations When: Saturday, December 1, 2007 12 PM to 3 PM, food and music. Where: Casa Del Mexicano, main floor ??????????????? 2900 Calle Pedro Infante Los Angeles, CA 90063 ? Latinos Against War (LAW) will host a panel discussion on human rights violations in Colombia. Colombia has had 26 union organizers assassinated this year.? Human rights workers, indigenous people are brutalized, kidnapped and killed regularly. Colombian drug cartels ship tons of cocaine to the US where they cause havoc in urban cities especially Latino and Black communities. Colombia also has a large decades old insurgency led by the FARC, whose peace negotiator Ricardo Palmera is currenlty on trial in Washington D.C. ? The testimony will consist of Jairo Lugo, Colombia activist,? with Unidad Latina en Accion 7 the National Committee to Free Ricardo Palmers, ?Marta Rojas, a Colombian LA resident and member of the March 25th Coalition, Eric Gardner, UCLA SDS, who has traveled in Colombia will speak about their experiences,? human rights violations, Plan Colombia and the trial of Ricardo Palmera. Carlos Montes who has traveled to Colombia will also speak of the importance of the struggle for sovereignty and non intervention in Latin America. ? ?LAW continues to protest Plan Colombia that sends millions of US dollars to be used by the military to repress the people of Colombia. ? The event is co endorsed by Chicano Latino Club of El Sereno Middle School, Roosevelt High School Immigrant Students, Boyle Heights Padres Unidos, and Students for Democratic Society of UCLA, Centro CSO, and the Colombia Action Network.
