The Caravan will benefit the Purple Rose Campaign against the Sex Trafficking of Filipina women and children, a continuing project of GABNet, a US-Philippines women's mass organization. The Caravan is held in partnership with the Stop the Traffick Jam Hip Hop Concert held in San Diego, headlined by Mystic, Bambu, OffWhyte of the Galapagos, and DJ Kuttin Kandi and The Heart from New York City. The Caravan will highlight the plight of women victims of trafficking through a series of teach-ins beginning in downtown Los Angeles and making four additional stops. Issues that will be covered include: sex trafficking, prostitution, labor exploitation, child trafficking, and militarism. Through the work of GABNet and other grassroots women's organizations, the issue of Human Trafficking has achieved global attention. Trafficking is exploitative, involving coercion, deceit, and violence and has far-reaching effects for the individuals involved in the sex trade, their families, nations, and the global economy. In addition, the prostituting of women and children adds another dimension to the crime of sex trafficking. In all of these cases, prostitution represents the ownership of women and children by pimps, brothel owners, and others for the purpose of financial gain, sexual gratification, and domination. The event is hosted by GABNet Los Angeles, GABNet Irvine, and GABNet San Diego. The Caravan will begin at the Pilipino Workers Center (PWC) to provide an overview of the issue of trafficking, specifically it's effects on the Filipino American community. Other stops include: Spearmint Rhino Strip Club (Stop 2); El Centro Community Center in Santa Ana (Stop 3); Basilone Road (Stop 4); and La Jolla, SD (Stop 5). Participants may join any and all teach-ins as the Caravan makes it's way to San Diego, culminating in the "Stop the Traffick Jam" Concert at UCSD's Price Center Ballroom.
