UPDATE FROM THE PEACE?& DIGNITY RUNNERS "Hello?from San Cristobal de Las Casas. We have been in Chiapas for a couple of days now and we will be here until the 9th.? Then we cross into Guatemala.? ? Today, we run to Acteal.? About 10 years ago now, there was a massacre there....the para military massacred people on a sunday...Actually, they were attending church services...people were killed, most in very brutal ways.? There were even pregnant woman who were killed and they had their babies pulled out from their stomachs.?? Please learn about this.... As a result some of the runners picked up children staffs and other staffs that were put in the bundle for those who have been unjustly killed. ? Tomorrow, we run to Caracol Oventic.? This is an autonomous indigenous community... On Sunday, we will run to Caracol Morelia....Then, on Monday we will run to Comitan de Dominguez. ? We will cross into Guatemala on the 9th.? We will make our way up to the Pete, the northern part of Guate....We are planning on reaching Tikal on October 12!? Tikal is a very important sacred site whre there are major teocallis there.?? We will be joining a major Mayan gathering for Indigenous Peoples Day.? The Peten/Tikal are known as the heart of the Mayan world.? The rest of the Mayan territories surround that region in neighboring countries. ? There is so much to report on but I will leave it at that for now. ? --Message from Jose Malvido, Peace?& Dignity Coordinator, Northern Route? _________________________________ Companeros, The run is a sacred prayer which began in 1992 and has occured eveyr 4 years since then running across North and South America. ?The runners are organizers, youth, community, and elders from up and down the continent--who have taken time from their lives to not only like many of us teach and organize for change, but to pray and dialogue with peoples from across the continent in this manner. ?Today they will pray with and for Zapatista communities in Acteal--- remembering the men, women and children killed there in the massacre of Acteal. ?Sunday, they enter a Zapatista Caracol and on the 9th enter Guatemala. This run is an important part of my life, my prayers and my family and community.? A few good friends are currently on the run praying and running for all of us, for the health and peace and dignity in our families, communities for our indigenous nations and for the world.? They are really low on funds and I urge you to attend the?fundraising events below and buy the benefit CDs. Please consider buying a few now for holiday?presents,?gifts, prizes, etc.?? Every $15.00 CD helps them get that much closer to their final destination in the Kuna nation of Panama on November 14th, 2008. ?
