Dear Laamn members, Save Our Station. Community television has been broadcasting to Long Beach and Signal hill for over 25 years. We have over 80 active producers, literally the voice of the people within the cable channels. With the passage of AB 2987, the closure of community television in Long Beach and Signal Hill appears imminent. The bill has negated all contracts with the cable providers and cities and will prohibit the use of cable funds for operating costs of public access studios. While there may be $ for capital expenses, there will be no $ for staff, maintenance, and rent. The bill appears to have been written by Verizon to penetrate the cable TV market which they have done. If you have a community TV channel which faces closure, please reply to this e-mail either on the list serve or directly to me.
