EMMY NOMINATED WRITER-PERFORMER JEFFREY SOLOMON IN CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED SOLO
PLAY ABOUT A MOTHER'S COMING OUT JOURNEY AS THE PARENT OF A GAY CHILD, TO
APPEAR AT
CELEBRATION THEATRE IN LOS ANGELES FOR TWO ONLY, JANUARY 19,20

"Mother/SON" .... No One Comes Out Alone

Emmy-nominated Writer-Performer Jeffrey Solomon created "Mother/SON" as a
tribute to his mother, whose struggle to accept and understand her gay son
–from first terrified visit to a support group for parents of gay children,
to marching with him in a pride parade – is chronicled in this poignant and
hilarious one-person play. The production was a critical hit in Chicago and
London and features Solomon as both mother and son in a performance the
Chicago Free Press calls "So believable, we forget we're watching one
actor."

The performances are at Celebration Theatre, 7051B Santa Monica Blvd. Los
Angeles, Jan. 19th and 20th @ 8pm and are cosponsored by P.F.L.A.G. Los
Angeles (Parents and Friends and Lesbians and Gays),
Congregations Beth Chayim Chadashim and Kol Ami, and JQ International. The
performances will feature post show discussions with writer-performer
Jeffrey Solomon. Tickets available through Tix.com online or call
323-957-1884.

Mother/SON most recently played to critical acclaim in London's Off West End
at the New End Theatre and the Leeds International Jewish Performing Arts
Festival. The work has toured widely around the U.S.
including the Meeting House Theater Provincetown (MA), the Penguin Rep in
Stony Point NY, Theatre J. in Washington D.C., Princeton University, and
Chicago's Bailiwick Repertory, where his performance was nominated for a
Joseph Jefferson Award Citation for Best Actor. Mr. Solomon has also
performed the play in India, Sri Lanka and the Philippines. His one-man
mock-umentary SANTA CLAUS IS COMING OUT premiered at the Bailiwick Rep in
Chicago before moving to New York's Gene Frankel Playhouse, the Coast
Playhouse in West Hollywood, 6th at Penn in San Diego, the Warehouse in
Washington, D.C., the Adrienne in Philadelphia, and Queens Theatre in the
Park. His solo works received top honors at the 2002 Columbus National Gay
and Lesbian Theater Festival, winning the awards for Best of the Festival
(SANTA CLAUS) and Best Solo Performer, Best Playwriting and audience
favorite for MOTHERSON. Jeffrey Solomon created an issue-based Saturday
morning television program on ABC called CITYKIDS for Jim Henson
Productions, and was a staff writer for the series. His pilot episode was
nominated for an Emmy Award as Best Children's Special, and won an Ollie
Award for excellence in Children's Programming.

QUOTES FROM THE PRESS:

"A powerful portrait of homosexuality and family...Solomon's
warm-hearted, semi-autobiographical tour-de-truth depicts the
comically complex and wryly evolving relationship of Mindy Levy, a
full-time Jewish mother, and her gay son Brad...as accessible as
enjoyable...a very fine dual performance, Solomon generously creates
mother and son from the outside in…Solomon captures and relishes the
moments of truth that connect loved ones as much as blood...powerfully
personal yet as universal as family values." –Chicago Tribune

"Funny, Moving and at times simply breathtaking…Solomon richly
deserved his standing ovation…brings out the fundamental nature of the
mother's life with humor and deep understanding."
- Yorkshire Evening Post

"Solomon is marvelous…demonstrates a roller coaster of emotions…funny,
poignant and appealing… this performance is a must-see." –Gay Chicago

"A universally moving story of love and friendship." –In Theater

"Wry, funny, affirming and authentic…Solomon conveys rich, believable
transformations in both mother and son…the honesty and an emotional
depth that Solomon instills throughout (not to mention his agility at
switching between a twenty something gay man and a forty something
straight woman) makes it a moving and worthwhile story."
-New City, Pick of the Week

"Subtly varying his inflections and gestures Solomon plays both
characters, always to hilarious effect."
-Chicago Reader

"MotherSON is the perfect play for skittish parents of gay and
lesbian children. It accords respect, dignity and understanding to a
parent's worries about the gay life, while at the same time providing
a road map for transforming fear into acceptance…Witty, warm and
honest…A gentle, moving story about transformation...Solomon is deeply
convincing in the dual role he has created here…he is so believable,
we forget we're watching only one actor."
–Chicago Free Press

"It reveals, in its most intimate moment, a gay son who has forged
such an incredible loving relationship with his Jewish mother that he
is lifted spiritually."–Provincetown Banner

"...It is a love letter to Solomon's own mother, revealing how she
gradually began to accept his sexual orientation and even, finally, to
be proud of him....In doing so, he has created a fascinating,
beautifully performed piece of theatre." -Ham and High

*****An amazing, riveting and moving performance....He differentiates
the characters with just a change of voice and attitude, getting right
under the skin of each one making them
charming and totally believable....This is a very moving,
semi-autobiographical play full of humanity and wonderful Jewish
humor. -Gaydar Nation
