Comrade Ruchell Magee was the only rebel to survive the assault by prison guards on the revolutionaries, the judge and the D.A. at the Marin County Courthouse on August 7, 1970. A year later on August 21, 1971, Comrade George Jackson was murdered while in prison. (Prisoners responding in part to his assassination launched the Attica Commune and rebellion at the state prison in NY) Then, Comrade Khatari Gaulden was assassinated by prison authorities in August 1978. We celebrate Black August as a month of struggle, not only for brother George and Jonathan Jackson but also for Afrikan people fighting in revolutionary struggle everywhere. As some of you know, the execution-style murder of Oscar Grant sparked its own rebellions in the middle of downtown Oakland. On January 1st 2009, Oscar Grant was murdered by Johannes Mehserle, while officer Tony Pirone shouted "Bitch Ass Nigger" at him three times. He was not only the first cop on trial for murder while on duty, but also the first convicted (though just of manslaughter, not murder)... We, in the Black Riders Liberation Party, feel that involuntary manslaughter is a joke and a slap in the face to Oscar Grant's Family and to the victims of police terrorism everywhere. This event will be a film screening and question and answer with Minister of Information JRof the P.O.C.C. and a music performance by the revolutionary hip hop group "Da Movement" followed by DJ Abba Roots spinning classic Reggae tunes and conscious hip hop. Suggested donation $1-10 but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
