The city of Los Angeles has sent the Black Riders Liberation Party a bill
for over $700 for removing flyers promoting the anti-nazi rally in front of
City Hall last April 17. This is b.s. since there is no way to hold the BRLP
responsible if someone took flyers they passed out and pasted them on a light
post. It reflects the fact that the city and the LAPD in particular fear the
Black Riders and their organizing efforts among Black youth and the Black
community. If anyone has specific information on previous successful efforts
against such harassment of movement groups for the posting of flyers on "public
property", please share it. If anyone has specific legal assistance to provide
or other precedents, please make them available. If anyone has contacts at City
Hall or with specific City Councillors, please use them to persuade the city to
cancel this harassment. But assuming that the "bill" from the city can't be
successfully quashed, then everyone involved in the anti-nazi mobilization, for
which the BRLP was definitely one of key organizers, should help pay the city's
bill instead of leaving the burden on the Black Riders. --Michael Novick,
