"The Current Political Balance and Strategies for Progressive Political Action"
A Public Political Forum, Sponsored by the KPFK Community Advisory Board
Tuesday, December 14, 2010, 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.
The New Peace Center, 3916 Sepulveda Boulevard, Culver City
Dear Friends:
The KPFK Community Advisory Board will be sponsoring a post-election public
forum to assess "The Current Political Balance and Strategies for Progressive
Political Action".
Please join us for discussion, and some debate, about what progressive forces
need to focus on in this period.
The post-election strategy of the corporate Right is already well in motion.
The Tea Party and the broader radical right-wing movement it represents
dominated the public discourse surrounding the recent national elections and
has successfully established a political beach-head for itself in the U.S.
Congress! What is to be done?
Program:
7:00 p.m.- 8:15 p.m.
--- A panel of speakers from local activist organizations dealing with critical
issues:
a) Tenant struggles in Los Angeles: (Speaker to be announced.)
b) Workplace struggles: HERE-UNITE rep., dealing with the strikes at the
Hollywood and Century City Hyatt Hotels
c) The Struggle for Green Jobs and A Full-Employment Economy: Kokayi Kwa
Jitahidi, LAANE
d) Solidarity w/ Oppressed Communities in the Struggle to Stop Police Violence
and Murders: Jubilee Shine, Coalition for Community Control Over the Police
e) Dispossessing the U.S. Working Class--- Mortgage Foreclosures and the Power
of the Banks: The Coffee Party of Los Angeles
f) Defending Our Health and Social Services Against Budget Cuts---Susan
Forrest, HIV Resource Specialist
8:15 - 9:30 pm
The second panel will be a discussion/debate about what strategy should be
pursued in the broader context of electoral politics, and its' relationship to
other avenues of struggle, particularly given the emergence of the Tea Party
and other extreme right-wing movements. This panel will be made up of the
following groups and speakers:
The Peace and Freedom Party--- Cindy Henderson
The Progressive Democrats--- Tom Camarella
The Green Party---Eugene Hernandez, San Fernando Valley Greens
The Coffee Party--- Kwazi Nkrumah
The Party of Socialism and Liberation--- Muna Coobtee
The Second panel will be moderated and introduced by Jim Lafferty of the
National Lawyers' Guild.
We hope that you will join us at this critical juncture in the political
evolution of the United States.
Free Parking on-site. Refreshments will be provided.
For more information, contact us at 213-884-5190.
Note:
This forum will simply serve to open some discussion of the issues. There will
be several follow-up forums that will give greater time for dialogue and
discussion and debate among the participants after the first of the new year.
