The MLK Coalition came together to form a contingent in the Annual MLK Parade
(held on January 17th) to challenge the militarization of the march, speak out
against the continuing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and focus attention on the
need to pull broad forces together to address the serious crisis that afflicts
almost every community today. We ended up with almost 400 people in our
contingent. We are now working to build the coalition as a vehicle for
on-going practical united-front work by a range of groups around issues that we
all agree on: jobs, housing, education, defense of social services, and peace.
On behalf of the Martin Luther King Coalition for Jobs, Justice and Peace, I
would like to urge you to join hands with us this Saturday, at our second
community meeting. (Please see specifics below.)

In 1967, when the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his speech:
"Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence, Declaration of Independence from the
War in Vietnam", there was a three-issue focus: jobs, justice & peace.
We believe the time is right to build a broad coalition of community groups to
take up the fight for those principles once again.
Our goal is to build an on-going coalition in order to organize a genuine mass
movement around these basic demands.
We’re 15 organizations and growing.
We invite you to be a part of the planning to keep MLK’s legacy of organizing
for peace, justice, and equality alive in concrete, measurable ways!
