"Hey Arianna, Can You Spare a Dime?"

Over the past three years, newsrooms have jettisoned thousands of
world class, award-winning journalists. Many were forced to leave
the field, but others opted to remain -- a choice that takes
devotion and guts in tough economic times.

Unmoored from the traditional newsroom, some of the brightest and
best in our field are struggling to get by without health coverage,
    workplace protections or practical supports.

Like many other publishers, Arianna Huffington has taken advantage
of the glut in journalistic talent that allows publishers to pay
next to nothing – or, in the case of the Huffington Post’s bloggers
    – nothing.

In her book Third World America, Huffington lambastes bankers whose
tactics have made it all but impossible for working people to earn a
living wage in these harsh economic times. We applaud her
championing of the working class. But her policies at the Huffington
Post contribute to the economic woes of this nation by driving down
    the value of journalism.

AOL's $315 million buyout of the Huffingon Post comes with a $4
million annual salary for Huffington. If the Post has turned a tidy
profit, it was at the expense of hard-working writers who never saw
    a dime for their labor.

Join members of Guild Freelancers and other independent journalists
across the nation in calling on Arianna Huffington to live up to her
ideals and share some of her profits with the people responsible for
    the Huffington Post's success.

Guild Freelancers constitutes a growing unit of The Newspaper
Guild/Communications Workers of America, which is organizing
independent journalists nationwide to fight for fair pay and decent
    working conditions.
