Dear C-R Activists,// Some background on this: North Hollywood HS most likely has the most aggressive and intimidating military recruiters in the Los Angeles Unified School District. They also have a Principal who has taken the side of the military recruiters and they have not been supported when they went to the local district superintendents (who are over the school administration). The students and parents have been relentless in their writing petitions, making appointments with the administration (which were broken or intimidation tactics used), passing out C-R literature, and speaking out against the injustices. They have formed a club, Ya Basta, which is not recognized by the school.// CAMS has contacted the Military Advisory Committee and I've been told that they are investigating this. In the meantime the military recruiters continue to have unequal and free reign access at this school. They are planning on going before the LAUSD School Board in addition to calling attention to the media and public. At this press conference, Students and Parents of North Hollywood High, members of the Ya Basta Youth Coalition and many other COMMUNITY organizations will DEMAND that the Los Angeles Unified School District remove military recruiters from school grounds due to violations of district policy 2067.1, recruiters harassing students, flirting with students and contacting students outside of school grounds via Facebook. There is no room on the North Hollywood High campus for the military. We will also be publicly stating that the Principal of North Hollywood High must listen to these demands and investigate these accusations. Tuesday, February 15, 2011 @ 3:20 P.M. The central objective/demand will be: To publicly hold LAUSD officials accountable for the safety of the students and to remove military recruiters given these concerns that have been ignored. 1) To publicly demand LAUSD investigate these accusations and suspend all military recruiters on the North Hollywood High Campus. 2) To publicly state our opposition to military recruiters coming on to the North Hollywood High Campus. 3) To call for an immediate end to all repression against students for speaking out against these violations Teachers, Parents and Students will be available for interviews in Spanish and English!
