Izarra: UK Foreign Secretary Hague story on Gaddafi in Venezuela false

Editor Patrick J. O'Donoghue reports:* It was a statement from British
Foreign Affairs Minister, William Hague that set the cat among the pigeons
yesterday when he gratuitously mentioned that he had information that
Libya's Muammar Gaddafi was on his way to Venezuela.

The first reaction in Venezuela was from a "top official" denying the news.

Later, Communications & Information (MinCi) Minister, Andres Izarra took
responsibility for confirming the official denial, calling Hague's news
release "false."

European Union foreign policy director, Catherine Ashton, herself British
but from the opposition Labour Party, brushed aside Hague's news as
unfounded rumors.

Izarra said Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Nicolas Maduro had spoken to his
counterpart in Tripoli, who insisted that Gaddafi was still in Libya.

Newspapers in the United Kingdom continue to link Venezuela with Gaddafi in
their headlines today, quoting Colonel Gaddafi: I'm in Tripoli not Venezuela
