The fact of the footage is that there was a group of Libyan soldiers who refused to obey orders to shoot their fellow Libyans and they were executed by the regime and its mercenaries. We can see at the end of the footage a dying soldier who is being encouraged to say the testimony of faith. Russia and China also oppose this measure. He said mediation was much more likely to solve the current crisis, and it should be done through people close to Colonel Gaddafi. Hugo Chavez appears to be one option. “There is more to be done by working through the Arab world, through the Arab League, and through people who know Gaddafi,” said Mr Meyer. He also warned that the decision of the ICC to investigate Gaddafi and his sons could make them “dig in deeper”. Mr Meyer is concerned that Gaddafi and those around him will feel like they have nothing to lose. From what I have seen from him, it appears that he is skeptical of the populist nature of the uprising in Libya and the west’s true motives in the region. While he certainly has reason to be concerned, I think this is just one of those cases where the revolution (as tainted by the west as it might be to some extent) must be supported. The real struggle against imperialism will come after the fall of the regime. Chavez should save his political capital for that moment if he really wants to protect Libyans from neo-liberalism.
