Saldivar-Grad. Student UCSD Ethnic Studies Mahmud Ahmad-Party for Socialism & Liberation March 30 marks the 35th anniversary of Palestinian Land Day -- The Day of The Land -- ÙÙ٠اÙأرض. On March 30, 1976, Israeli occupation forces killed six Palestinians, wounded hundreds, and arrested hundreds more during a general strike and mass protests over Zionist plans to illegally expropriate thousands of acres of Palestinian land in Israel's ongoing campaign to ethnically cleanse the people of Palestine from their land. Today, Land Day is more than an historic commemoration of a pivotal event in the Palestinian struggle against Israel's illegal and immoral theft and occupation of Palestinian land since 1948. Now more than ever, Land Day is deeply relevant -- as Israel dramatically escalates its efforts to ethnically cleanse Jerusalem of its indigenous Palestinian population, and continues to expropriate land across historic Palestine as part of its continued expansion of illegal settlements. Nearly 7.5 million Palestinian children, women and men live as refugees -- the largest and longest standing refugee population in the world. And for decades, Palestinians have struggled for liberation, democracy and human rights. Today, throughout the Arab World, ordinary people have taken up not just the Palestinian cause, but embraced that tradition of struggle for justice as their own through mass demonstrations, popular struggle and revolution that is sweeping across the Arab World, in Tunis, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Bahrain and now Syria. Join us in our commemoration of Palestinian Land Day as we discuss these historic events and their deeply rooted connection to today's struggle in Palestine.
