Celebrate 50 years since the Cuban Revolution’s victory over Washington’s mercenary invasion at Bay of Pigs -Playa Girón
Fifty years ago, on April 19, 1961, Cuba’s working people defeated in combat a US-organized invasion by 1,500 mercenaries at the Bay of Pig(Playa Girón).It was Washington’s first military defeat in the Americas. Workers and farmers were defending the gains of their fledgling socialist revolution: guaranteeing farmers’ right to land, wiping out illiteracy, uprooting racial discrimination and advancing women’s rights, using Cuba’s resources for social needs, not private profit for a few. The victory at Playa Girón showed it is possible to stand up to imperialist power and win. Today the Cuban Revolution remains a living example to millions in the world, one that the US government still can neither accept nor defeat.
