Attorney will demand return of political and personal property and FBI communications with LA Sheriffs. Los Angeles, CA, on Friday, August 12, 8:30 am at the Criminal Courts Bldg. Department 100, 210 West Temple Avenue, LA. Attorney Jorge Gonzalez, representing Carlos Montes will demand return of his property and political documents that were seized by police. Also will seek communications between FBI and LA Sheriffs. Carlos Montes previously appeared in Alhambra Court July 6, and declared himself Not Guilty on 6 felony charges, dealing with alleged firearms code violations. On May 17, 2011 at 5 am, the FBI, along with the LA Sheriff's SWAT team, carrying automatic weapons, raided Carlos Montes’ home seizing his computer, cell phones, and files documenting decades of political work. Montes was arrested and released on bail the following morning. Mick Kelly, will be present and available for interviews, his home was raided by the FBI, on September 24, 2010, along with other peace activists, and is currently under FBI investigation. Carlos Montes is a nationally respected leader in the Chicano, immigrant rights, and antiwar movements. Carlos Montes is a veteran activist known for his leadership of the 1968 East Los Angeles education reform movement (see film Walkout), the historic Chicano Moratorium against the U.S. war in Vietnam, and the recent immigrants’ rights mega-marches of 2006. Carlos Montes was a co-founder of the Brown Berets, a Chicano youth organization that stood for justice, equality, and self-determination. With the 2003 Bush administration war and occupation of Iraq, Montes helped form and lead L.A. Latinos Against War. In recent years, Carlos helped initiate and organize the Southern California Immigration Coalition, to fight against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and police repression.
