UFPJ announces a Fall Campaign of Resistance and Renewal:
10 Years Too Many!
>From the World Trade Towers to Afghanistan
Honor Those Who Have Sacrificed and Take Action to
Stop War and Build a Just World!
September 7 – October 15, 2011: Decade of War Awareness Month in
communities near you!
October 6 -7, 2011 Washington DC-- Education and Action to Stop War and
Build a Just World!
September 11, 2011 marks 10th anniversary of the attacks against the World
Trade Center Towers, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93 which led
to the disastrous Global War on Terror. October 7, 2011 will mark the
tenth year of war and occupation in Afghanistan that have left hundreds of
thousands dead and injured while bankrupting our nation. The violence of these
wars can be seen daily in decimated homes, sky-high suicide rates,
communities starved of critically needed resources and a radically changing
environment.
Despite politician’s promises of impending full withdrawal, the U.S.
military continues to occupy Afghanistan and Iraq and there is little
indication
that this will change. Civilians and the well-armed alike continue to die.
Hundreds of thousands of U.S. military personnel remain on the ground;
military bases remain in place; and the numbers of security contractors are
increasing. Additionally NATO with full support from the U.S. has initiated a
new war in Libya and the U.S. use of drone attacks is leading to
increasing civilian casualties in Pakistan. Armed U.S. drones are also being
used in
Yemen and Somalia. These wars, military attacks and occupations bleed our
economy dry and engender hatred of the U.S. around the world

to mark the 10th Anniversary of War
called by United Anti-War Committee
At home in the United States we are facing multiple collapses; collapse
of the environment, collapse of the housing industry, and the collapse of
municipal, state and federal budgets all because of Wall Street greed. We
are seeing more and more people out of work, lacking health care and denied
access to quality education. We see veterans coming home haunted by PTSD,
many losing their homes and --along with millions of other people --
struggling to find jobs. We are seeing the greatest economic inequality
ever,
with the richest 5 percent of the population owning 65 percent of the nation’
s wealth and with white Americans controlling more than double the wealth
of African Americans and Latino’s.
Despite the challenges ahead we are inspired by the unprecedented
movements for democracy and freedom that have sprung up across the world from
Middle East to Wisconsin to Europe! Led by youth, millions of people are
marching for self-determination and dignity. Weary of years of repression
and
the global economic collapse, they are leading a transformation before our
eyes.
Starting in September and building into October a number of groups are
organizing creative actions to commemorate these past 10 years from 10 Years +
Counting to Stop the Machine, Create a New World action starting October
6th in Washington DC.
On October 7th United for Peace and Justice, coordinating with Military
Families Speak Out, War Resisters League, IVAW and more will help sponsor WAR
VOICES a program that will bring together impacted communities from the US
to Afghanistan to learn about each other’s struggles and how we can build
power to end war and save our communities and the planet itself!
