Stop the Wars for The 1%!

WHAT: ANTI-WAR VIGIL at OCCUPY LA
WHEN: Saturday, November 5th - Starting at 1:00 PM
WHERE: Occupy L.A. at Los Angeles City Hall
Meet at the West Steps, facing Spring Street
*After 1pm, you may have to look for Vigil moving around
block or in plaza by South Steps.
HOW: Bring your signs, your banners, your flyers, and yourselves! If
you are driving, there is a
parking lot for $4 on 2nd & Los Angeles St. (plus one on
3rd & Spring, but may be closed).

(Metro to Civic Center stop, walk east two blocks
to 1st and Spring.)

WHO: Members of various antiwar/peace and justice vigils of So.Cal in
support of Occupy L.A.,
and any who wants to join us in our opposition to the wars!
WHY: To raise awareness of connections between the antiwar struggle
and Occupy L.A. protests.
The elite 1% -- who also control U.S. foreign policy -- use
48% of our income tax dollars on
military spending for their resource wars, accumulating
trillions in national debt, while cutting
our jobs, schools, and services. They blame us for spending
too much, while wasting our
hard-earned money, countless lives, and earth's finite
resources in their drive for profits. We
therefore feel antiwar protest should be an intrinsic part
of the Occupation's clarion call for
economic justice, and consider it part of our job to help
reveal the connections! So do join
us, as together we help build dissent, into understanding,
into power, into real social change!
Flyer: Help spread the word with the attached flyer.

ABOUT US:
In recent weeks, members of various antiwar/peace&justice vigils in L.A.
have been talking about how to
initiate antiwar activity as part of the OLA protests. Included have been
members of the Studio City, San
Gabriel (Alhambra), West Covina, Whittier, Highland Park, Eagle Rock,
Glendale, Montrose, Silverlake,
and Topanga vigils to name a few. Some have discussed how to help build the
antiwar, anti-imperialist, or
peace and justice focus within Occupy L.A.. Some have talked about having
some kind of vigil presence
at OLA. Some have addressed how to bring their experience and thinking about
social change organizing
to the Occupation movement. Most everyone seems interested in this changing
political wind... Given this
interest, a few of us decided to draw upon our invisible but persistant
Vigil Congress ties to create some
intervigil activity in conjunction with Occupy L.A.. And last Saturday, we
did just that. Led by Studio
City's Neighbors for Peace and Justice banners, "Stop Funding War "and
"Jobs, Not Wars," we vigiled at
Occupy L.A., and the reception was great! So, this Saturday, we are doing it
again, and invite all of you to
vigil along! While we fully expect So Cal's vigils, as always, to bring to
Occupy L.A. their wonderfully
varying approaches (in the great tradition of our decentralized autonomous
L.A. vigiling!), we also believe
this is a important opportunity for an intervigil presence at the
Occupation, allowing us to do what we have
years experience doing: demonstrating/educating/organizing against the wars
in a diversity of ways. Join us!

I hope you can make it! And, if you can't join this week's vigil, please let
me know if you are interested in
future plans. Thanks for all you do!
