She was tortured and held prisoner without trial for over 2 years at one of the 375 clandestine detention and torture centers set up during the dictatorship. Unlike so many of the disappeared, Patricia survived and was released in 1979, only to be abducted again after she compiled complaints to be presented to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of the Organization of American States, which was about to visit Argentina. She was released after 3 days, but was one of only four to survive. After her ordeal she continued her education and received a degree in architecture. In 1997 she began an investigation into her torturer's identities. Due to Patricia's relentless research her torturers were arrested and put in jail. After receiving death threats and being placed in the Witness Protection Program, she continued to work tirelessly to bring her perpetrators to justice. Finally, in December 2009, Patricia found justice in the federal court of Santa Fe when all six torturers, including a federal judge and a former mayor of Santa Fe, were found guilty of crimes against humanity and given sentences ranging from 19-23 years. Patricia worked as an architect in Buenos Aires until 2007 when she became a consultant with the Ministry of Justice (her current position). In 2010 President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner appointed Patricia to the Truth Commission "Papel Prensa" which investigated human rights violations during the dictatorship. On International Women's Day 2010 Patricia, Estela Carlotto (President of the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo) and Lita Boittano (President of Families of Detainees Disappeared for Political Reasons) received the Human Rights Award from the University of Bologna in recognition of their struggle for human rights.
