Baca KeynoteSpeech at Awards Event When: Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 3 PM Where: Village Church, 343 South ChurchLane, Los Angeles, CA 90049 Who: Southern California ImmigrationCoalition, the Community Service Organization, supporters, allies and victimsof LA County Sheriffs Secure Communities (police/ICE program) The SCIC and supporters will organize aprotest outside the church to express their anger that Sheriff Baca is anhonored keynote speaker. Sheriff Baca is the honored keynotespeaker at event sponsored by faith leaders. He is speaking on the topic of Unityin Diversity! Earlier this year Sheriff Baca wrote an LA Times editorial sayingimmigrants shouldn't have civil rights! Sheriff Baca is an advocate of (In)Secure Communities (SCOMM), the ICE/Police program that has led to the detentionand deportation of thousands of immigrants for minor infractions and traffictickets, primarily Mexican and Central American. LA City Council and Mayor AntonioVillarigoza have officially opposed SCOMM. Several major cities like New York,Washington DC and San Francisco have opted out from SCOMM. The LA County Sheriff’s Department andSheriff Baca are under investigation by the FBI for alleged corruption andphysical abuse by Sheriff’s Deputies against people awaiting trial. Also fortargeting Black and Latino residents of Antelope Valley.
