Here's the location of this weekend's BMPAC Blues Festival. Several people,
including me missed the address, just below Barbara's name as a contact.
Misplaced, brother Bernie acknowledges. Check yesterday's BMPAC email for
the list of artists appearing on the three day event. I recommendt this
Flamenco Cooncert as I would, and did so for Ravi Shankar when I presented
him at the Santa Monica Civic, in the early 1970's. This is a very special,
soulful, dynamic presentation by a living legend.

       Bay Area Flamenco Festival presents

One of the Most Important Figures
in the History of Flamenco

 Manuel Agujetas
<http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs089/1101898095414/img/153.jpg>

MANUEL AGUJETAS

Living Legend of Gypsy Flamenco

"Agujetas' singing is rough like the first sip of whiskey."

>From the film "Agujetas Cantaor"

Spanish Gypsy flamenco legend Manuel Agujetas, is an outstanding,
controversial singer - anarchic and unpredictable. Born in Jerez de la
Frontera in 1939, Manuel Agujetas is one of the most important figures in
the history of flamenco. Heir to the Spanish Gypsy tradition of singing
blacksmiths, Agujetas worked in his father's forge until 1970, when he made
his first recording. He has achieved international recognition for his
singing of the stunningly intense form of flamenco, cante jondo (deep song),
which includes flamenco's purest, ancient styles such as martinetes and
siguiriyas. He is the father of singers Dolores Agujetas and Antonio
Agujetas. He has recorded over 10 albums and appears in Carlos Saura's film
"Flamenco" and is the subject of Dominique Abel's documentary "Agujetas,
Cantaor".

Agujetas will be joined by his wife, dancer Kanako and the superb young
Gypsy guitarist Manuel Valencia of Jerez de la Frontera, a student of both
maestro Manuel Morao and Gerardo Núñez and the nephew of Terremoto, from
whom he learned to accompany the cante.

(2012, World Premiere)

  <http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs089/1101898095414/img/194.jpg>

Emmy Award-winning director/dancer Yaelisa pays tribute to the founders and
creators of the legendary Cuevas Room, which was located at the Olde
Spaghetti Factory in North Beach. This production honors founders Ernesto
Hernandez, Freddie Mejia and Isa Mura, Yaelisa's mother, and provides a
historical perspective of the importance of this proving ground for
flamenco, and the lasting impact that it

had on flamenco in North America.

The production brings together the figures, the atmosphere and a retelling
of the many mythic stories that took place within its walls. Spoken word,
projections and historical recreations, blend with appearances by many of
the original artists who passed through its legendary stage. Rounding out
the cast of more than 25 are:

Keni "El Lebrijano", Juan Moro, Roberto Zamora, Melissa Cruz, David
Gutierrez, Sara de Luis, Raquel Lopez, Sarita Ayala, Don Fontowitz,
Rubina Valenzuela and more......
