To: Date: Monday, May 28, 2012, 8:10 PM The school where I work, Santee Education Complex, is run by Mayor Villaraigosa's "Partnership for LA Schools." They already fired our principal and now they are trying to get rid of myself and several other teachers. They are using the "Budget Cuts" as the reason to get rid of me but in reality, it's a political move to try to get rid of me because of the community/student organizing that I (along with several other compas) have done there in the last 7 years! I am NOT going out without a fight! This Wednesday, the students, parents and community members are having a rally before school (7AM) in front of Santee to send the "Partnership" a clear message; "Ron Gochez must stay at Santee!" It's important to mention that they are NOT trying to get rid of me for any disciplinary reasons. In my 7 years of teaching I have never received a negative "stull" (teacher evaluation). My students have scored higher on the CA Standardized Tests than most of the students at Santee. I am currently the only teacher who teaches Ethnic Studies classes and I'm also the MEChA Adviser at our campus. The Partnership has already made special arrangements to keep other teachers who were being displaced and who have less seniority than I do. I know for a fact that they CAN keep me at Santee; they simply do not want to. I should also mention that I am running for LA City Council in the same District where Santee is located and that I am running against Democrats who are part of Mayor Villaraigosa's politcal machine. It would be great for them if they could remove me from a school in the 9th district but we must fight to not allow them to have their way.
