The FBI Frame-up of Carlos Montes:
Carlos Montes is facing 4 felony charges because the FBI directed the L.A.
Sheriff to claim he is a felon and could not legally buy a gun at the local
store. The FBI and Sheriff's claim stems from a 1969 student protest for
Chicano, Black and Women’s studies at East L.A. College, where sheriffs came on
campus and beat and arrested demonstrators. Montes was arrested later on his
way home, and charged with assault on a peace officer at the protest. This was
a frame up, as Carlos was a well-known leader of the Brown Berets and East L.A.
student walkouts. The charge ended up as a misdemeanor. The FBI is using this
42-year-old charge today, attacking Carlos because of his current activism, and
anti-war and solidarity work. It is clearly political repression.

Now is the time to build a nationwide solidarity movement with Carlos Montes.
The attack on Carlos Montes is an attack on our movements for international
solidarity and against war and repression. We need to demand the District
Attorney Steve Cooley drop the charges now. We need your solidarity to see that
justice is done.

Many of you heard Carlos Montes phone message to supporters, which says, “With
your help we will win this case. The repression against me is an attack on all
of our movements. Thank you all for your solidarity! Together we will win!”
