SCADA Is Endorsing Michael Powelson of the Green Party for Congress in District 30. SCADA Is Not Endorsing Two Incumbent Congressmen, Brad Sherman & Howard Berman. --- Because both Howard Berman and Brad Sherman were such ardent supporters of George Bush's Iraq War, still stubbornly insist on continued funding for the Afghanistan quagmire (joining with Republicans against most of their Democratic colleagues), and have been at the forefront of the campaign for a dangerous and potentially budget-busting military confrontation with Iran, SCADA can't in good conscience support either of these candidates at this time. Realizing that the costs of a warfare state undermine our ability to meet social needs and thus that "pro-war progressive" is a contradiction in terms, we are instead endorsing Green candidate Michael Powelson as a protest. However, we hope that either Berman or Sherman (both members of the Foreign Affairs Committee and thus bearing special responsibilities for sane leadership on such issues) will, in the months before the General Election, give us some evidence of a willingness to champion Peace positions like getting out of Afghanistan and not attacking Iran. Whereas: Because both Howard Berman and Brad Sherman were ardent supporters of Bush/Cheney's Iraq War, voting for both regime change and war in 1991,1998, 2002 and have yet to recant their votes and support of that illegal war. Whereas: By not learning the lessons of Iraq, such as; 1.How the American People were deceived by a small group of Neo-Conservative Republicans though propaganda, falsification of evidence, false testimony to the U.S. Congress, American People and the United Nations of the World. 2. False accusations of the development and possession of Nuclear and Chemical Weapons of Mass destruction. 3. False accusations of Iraq being an imminent threat to the National Security of the United States. Whereas Congressman Berman and Sherman were and are raking members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, mandated to investigate false accusations and evidence presented to the congress that would mislead the American People into war with Iraq and Iran and have failed to. Whereas both Berman and Sherman continue to vote for money for wars, military waste and against civil rights, including the possible indefinite detention of American Citizens (RC #932) Whereas both Berman and Sherman are not working to prevent the same drumbeat of war aimed at Iran based on the false accusations, fear-baiting at the urging of Neo-Conservative Special Interests. Whereas both voted for outlawing diplomacy with Iran and both voted for counterproductive sanctions the hurt the Iranian people (RC#474) Whereas both voted for the continuation of the 11 year old war against Afghanistan and a safe and responsible withdrawal. (RC#927, #502,#193, #267) Whereas both continue to supported wasteful military spending including voting for a new Cold War Nuclear Bomber (RC#499) Whereas both voted against cutting the Pentagon budget (RC#128) Whereas SCADA has a deep commitment to speaking out against illegal and immoral wars of aggression, and the politicians who instigate those wars.
