Respected Jesuit Albó Denounces Evo’s TIPNIS highway Posted: admin <http://www.boliviaweekly.com/author/admin/> on Jul 06 | Environment <http://www.boliviaweekly.com/category/environment/>, Indigenous & Culture <http://www.boliviaweekly.com/category/culture/> Respected Jesuit author and priest, Xavier Albó, said that the Morales government is using a strategy of deception and confrontation to wear down indigenous groups and validate his meeting with 45 supposed leaders of the area who agreed to a vote on building a highway through the TIPNIS national park. “It’s clear that when Morales signed law 180 (promising never to build a highway through the TIPNIS), just a few days later he was looking for his strategy to do the opposite and found the law 222 and began to attack all the TIPNIS leaders, divide indigenous organizations and make a series of accords with certain lowland groups in order to defenestrate TIPNIS leader Adolfo Chavez.” Albó continued, “From the beginning the government was against the march. Since the 8th march and now with the 9th march. They repressed the 8th march in Chaparina but now their tactic is to ignore them, to say that they don’t represent anybody, and have placer all their power into a campaign, with Evo Morales at its head, to bring gifts to the TIPNIS when they had never brought anything before.” When Morales visited TIPNIS communities recently he brought gifts of outboard motors, communications equipment, and soccer balls along with promises of education and health if these remote indigenous communities allow him to build a super highway through their protected homeland. Chavez, regretted that the Government does not take into account the sacrifice made by marchers who moved from Trinidad-Beni and walking for more than 60 days to the city of La Paz. “There is nothing new in the letter, but rather said that we are hurting the La Paz people, while they have received us well.” “In response, we will continue here and we are strong because we have come to stay till the last consequences,” Chavez told the media. The letter sent by the Minister of the Presidency, Juan Ramón Quintana on July 6, specifies a meeting with all the representatives of the 63 communities and the three Presidents of the substations, the Sub Central Tipnis, Secure and the Conisur. “We see a stubborn, hypocritical Minister because it is he who is dividing the indigenous movement, is the Minister Mr Quintana, and here we are going to show documents” said indigenous leader. In the letter, the Minister questioned the marchers and mainly for not participating in meetings with “legitimate” representatives of the indigenous territory. Quintana also criticized the alleged prejudice to public officials and the public caused by the marchers that performs a vigil in vicinity of kilometer zero [Plaza Murillo]. This fact was rejected by Chavez, ensuring that on the other hand there is still a good reception of the citizens who continue to collaborate with warm clothing, food, but in relation to officials of the Vice-Presidency, regretted that some of these people attacked them with “really humiliating” terms. For this weekend the installed vigil plans to conduct marches in the city of La Paz and its citizen movements have ensured their participation in demonstrations in support of the indigenous demands. Meanwhile, in front of the indigenous vigil the Bolivia Central Bank began construction of a fence that can protect this public property. http://www.eldeber.com.bo/indigenas-rechazan-propuesta-del-gobierno-a-un-dialogo-condicionado/120707140043 I hope there is dialogue and current government comes to its senses and speaks with the people. --------------------------- TIPNIS 9th March decided to remain in La Paz, asking for dialogue with current gov Posted by Bolivian Thoughts <http://bolivianthoughts.com/author/xxxyyy34/> ⋅July 7, 2012 ⋅ Leave a Comment<http://bolivianthoughts.com/2012/07/07/tipnis-9th-march-decided-to-remain-in-la-paz-asking-for-dialogue-with-current-gov/#respond> *Filed Under* bad politics <http://bolivianthoughts.com/tag/bad-politics/>, CIDOB <http://bolivianthoughts.com/tag/cidob/>, COICA<http://bolivianthoughts.com/tag/coica/>, CONAMAQ <http://bolivianthoughts.com/tag/conamaq/>, democracy in peril<http://bolivianthoughts.com/tag/democracy-in-peril/>, indigenous rights <http://bolivianthoughts.com/tag/indigenous-rights/> Pagina Siete reports: <http://bolivianthoughts.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/2012-07-07-08-33-52-am.jpg>Despite a harsh cold winter in the seat of Government and the indifference of governmental authorities, the indigenous IX March decided yesterday, to remain in the city of La Paz until the Executive branch of Government meets its demands platform. The leaders said that they *expect to “subdue” the “arrogance” of the President and force him to join them*. Hours earlier, the leaders of this movement thought about returning to their communities and from there lead the resistance against the “consultation” that aims to run the Executive in the TIPNIS. The repression of the police on Thursday made that the marchers were unmotivated and wanted to return home. “Column of the March decision is that all the regional and the territories that we are, we will stay.” We are going to stay Yes or Yes at the seat of Government until the Government flexes its pride and dialogue with indigenous Peoples. “Men, women and children stayed”, emphasized the President of the March, Bertha Bejarano. The decision taken at noon was later driven with the massive support to the indigenous peoples of the lowlands, which was carried out through the downtown streets of La Paz yesterday afternoon, prior to the cabildo organized in the main square of the Church of San Francisco. Bejarano also reported that in the next few hours, will arrive representatives of the Coordinator of indigenous organizations of the Amazon basin (COICA) to “give sup[port to the column of the March and know how the Government acts against indigenous Peoples". The President of the Confederation of indigenous Peoples of the East Bolivia (CIDOB), Adolfo Chávez, added meanwhile that they will come to La Paz in the coming days representatives of other regional organizations to join forces for the indigenous 9th March. "With the support of the people of La Paz, there will be new decisions to go ahead," he said. 11 Days ago that the indigenous Peoples of the column of marchers arrived in La Paz, after a painful walk of 62 days from the city of Trinidad, capital of the Beni Department. The sector requires dialogue with governmental authorities so that they hear the indigenous platform of nine points; among the main is to respect the law 180 that establishes the inviolability of the TIPNIS and which abrogated the law 222 of consultation, that the Executive wants to start to deploy from July 29 in 64 communities in the National Park. The Government agreed with several groups, which began to return to their communities. However, several organizations were supporting the March orders. For tomorrow, civic organizations in the south area of the seat of Government have invited them to participate in an act of support to be carried out in the atrium of the Church of San Miguel (Calacoto) in the morning. http://www.paginasiete.bo/2012-07-07/Nacional/Destacados/3nac070712.aspx An important excerpt from El Dia, follows: Indigenous <http://bolivianthoughts.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/2012-07-07-09-35-32-am1.jpg>Justa Cabrera presents her resignation.
