Hello Dear Friends As most of you know, I have been studying how mass media messages can impact life and death issues--human rights, war, genocide, peace-making, democracy and the planet itself (e.g. climate change). I published my first set of findings in the book, Kill the Messenger: The Media's Role in the Fate of the World, which came out at the end of last year. I think we all instinctively realize that ethical, critical journalism is one important aspect in determining what happens in these life and death issues. Today's Internet age changes the equation, for good and for bad. On the bad side, it allows misinformation and dangerous framing to further cloud the issues. I argue that another world is possible. And building such a world requires spreading new ideas and frames, or merely revisiting the nobler old ones. . . .
I'll be talking about these findings and in Burbank on the evening of Thursday, July 26, and I'm writing to see if you might come. KPFK is sponsoring the event and C-SPAN is taping it for its BookTV broadcast. When: 7 PM Thursday July 26 Where: ACF Burbank Youth Center, 75 E. Santa Anita, Burbank, CA 91503. Host: Burbank ANC (Armenian National Committee) and Sardarabad Books I hope you can join me. And if you are interested in the book, it is available in most book stores, including Amazon (and is Kindle-able) here: http://www.amazon.com/Kill-Messenger-Medias-Role-World/dp/1616143878/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1342063292&sr=1-1&keywords=maria+armoudian Here is one of the reviews: http://www.alternet.org/story/152233/%22kill_the_messenger%22%3A_new_book_examines_how_the_media_has_perpetuated_both_good_and_evil/ Hope to see you.
