(April, 1968) Rev. James Lawson Jr. is a nationally known leader of the Civil Rights Movement. He was instrumental in introducing the philosophy of nonviolence to the movement and was a close associate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He served as the director of Nonviolent Education for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and was a leader of the Nashville sit-in campaign and the Memphis sanitation workers' strike. Rev.
