A terrible crime was committed
The wrong person went to prison
Dear Romi,

Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are free – and profiting from their crimes – while
the man who bravely exposed them is off to prison.
Amazingly, the man who publicly exposed the Bush administration’s illegal and
secret torture regime was sent to prison on
Tuesday for two and a half years. What an outrage!
Yes, Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld walk free – and in fact
are raking in millions from book deals and speaking fees – but the CIA agent
who courageously blew the whistle on the torturers is off to jail.
We cannot sit by and let this gross injustice take place in
silence! The torturers and those who ordered it should be the ones going to
prison.
John Kiriakou, the father of five children, was facing
decades in prison after he went public with the CIA’s use of waterboarding of
detainees. That’s how the world learned the truth. But telling the truth has
apparently become a crime since Bush stole the election in 2001.
Kiriakou was originally charged under the Espionage Act of
1917 and finally accepted a plea agreement that required him to admit to one
count of disclosing information that led to the revelation of the identity of
the CIA agent who oversaw the torture operations.
“Let’s be clear, there is one reason and one reason only,
that John Kiriakou, is taking this plea: for the certainty that he’ll be out of
jail in 2 ½ years to see his five children grow up,” wrote Jesselyn Raddack, a
former Justice Department who was a whistleblower herself during the Bush
administration.
We must keep fighting for justice
Millions of Americans like you are outraged that the
criminals in the Bush administration have not been indicted and prosecuted for
torture, secretly spying on the American people and for launching a war of
aggression that took the lives of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and tens of
thousands of U.S. soldiers who either died or suffered life-changing injuries
in Iraq.
This is a long struggle but we will not rest. It is an
international effort too as Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld face legal challenges
throughout the world.  The Chilean
criminal General Pinochet was eventually arrested and indicted after human
rights campaigners continued to raise the issue for many years.
On Jan. 21, 2013, the next President will take the oath of
office at the inauguration in Washington, D.C.
Whoever wins the Nov. 6 presidential election, we will be
lining the parade route with signs, banners, and leaflets demanding that Bush,
Cheney, Rumsfeld and others be indicted and prosecuted for the terrible crimes
of torture, spying and waging a war of aggression. We hope you will join us on
Jan.
21 and make it clear to world that the crimes committed in our names by the
Bush administration were done so without our consent.
Please make an urgently needed donation today to help
continue this global effort for justice and government accountability.
Sincerely,
All of us at Indict Bush Now!
