Every day the young shepherds form human chains to reach the great depths of the wells and fetch life giving water. Their hard work is stressed by a chant that draws their great herds, who after days of walking in search of pasture are finally coming home to drink at the singing wells. In 2008, university student Tim DeChristopher committed an act which would redefine patriotism in our time. In order to save 14 pristine parcels of land in Utah (totaling 22,500 acres) from environmental devastation and corporate interest, he single-handedly outbid a group of investors at a public auction. In an interesting turn of events, DeChristopher was removed from the auction in handcuffs by FBI agents, taken into custody, and ultimately sentenced to two years in prison! This ignited a spirit of civil disobedience in the name of climate justice that spread across the country. Follow Tim, "Bidder 70", from college student to incarcerated felon and redefine justice for yourself. This film chronicles the bonds of friendships under stress, the ethics of journalism in conflict and above all, the resilience of humans during war. With never-before-seen footage and testimonies reported from one of the most dangerous places on earth, the film bears witness to how Gaza powerfully changed them forever. The outcome of this battle not only determines who we become, but the society we create. Imagine two enemy combatants on a battlefield. Suppose it were possible to go back in time and swap them at birth, so that each baby would be raised in the other culture. Is it not inevitable that each would end up fighting for the other side -- fighting for a different flag, a different religion, a different ideology? The film uses this thought experiment as a starting point to explore the following questions: Do the forces that shape us serve the interests of those doing the shaping? Our mission is to raise awareness for international human rights, children’s advocacy, environmental preservation, and animal advocacy through international films. More than a film festival, we guide the public “From Awareness to Positive Action” by providing informative films that inspire action; we then connect our audiences to dozens of NGOs where they can participate in positive change. In 2012, the UNITED NATIONS officially accepted the Artivist Film Festival and Awards as a member of the United Nations Department of Public Information. Among the 7+ million NGOs operating worldwide, only 1,322, (less than 1%), are affiliated with the United Nations DPI. The Artivist Collective, Inc. is now the only NGO within the entire DPI whose main program is a Film Festival.
