According to reports from Tehran, the imprisoned Iranian human rights
lawyer Nasrin Sotoodeh has started a hunger strike on 17 October 2012 to
protest refusal on the part of prison authorities to allow regular visits
from her children and other family members. Nasrin Sotoodeh who is
currently serving a 6 year prison term has been in prison since September
4, 2010 without even one day of furlough, and security officials have
denied her regular visits from her family.

Nasrin Sotoudeh is an iranian lawyer a has been imprisoned in Tehran since
September 2010. Her crime was to defend human rights activists. She also
defended people who were sentenced to death for crimes committed when they
were children.

human rights issues inside Iran and the cessation of the death penalty have
called for a moratorium on international funding to Iran’s anti-drug
trafficking programs until such time Iran renounces its policy of execution
for those convicted of drug-related offenses.
