Dear Supporters of Saving & Refurbishing Paul Conrad's "Chain Reaction" Sculpture:
Sunday, December 2, 2012, marks the 70th anniversary of the birth of the Atomic Age. On December 2, 1942, scientists created the world's first self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction at the Fermi reactor in Chicago. The Atomic Age was born- and so was radioactive waste and the horrors of nuclear destruction. The late Paul Conrad's 26-foot-tall iconic "Chain Reaction" peace sculpture, that has been standing in the Santa Monica Civic Center since 1991, is a timely and ongoing warning of the devastating global threats of nuclear escalation. He inscribed at the base of his creative, unique, and now landmarked monumental public art sculpture: "This is a statement of peace. May it never become an epitaph." That warning, yet hopeful alert, is a message most everyone could understand and appreciate. So, as we get ready to again contact the (new) Santa Monica City Council to urge them to grant more time and more City support to save and restore "Chain Reaction", I ask you (again) to also please consider making a private tax-deductable donation to help with the City's estimated substantial costs for the gifted iconic sculpture's repair and restoration. Please visit: ConradProjects.com To contact all 7 members of the Santa Monica City Council with one e-mail and phone call: Call: 310-458-8201 E-mail: coun...@smgov.net (Please ask that your message also be sent to the two newly-elected City Council members.) Thank you!
