CAIR Hosts a Screening of:

 

"The Tortured: Stories of Survival"

 

Saturday, February 2nd, 6:00 PM

California State University Fullerton

Directed by Los Angeles-based filmmaker Murad Aldin Amayreh, 

the film interweaves five accounts of torture experienced in prisons in

El Salvador, Colombia, Israel, Syria & Vietnam. Connected by their
experiences, 

the survivors recount the inhumane treatment inflicted upon them & the
resulting 

physical and psychological challenges that they still struggle with until
today.

 

One of the survivors featured in the film, Hector Aristizabal, 

will be part of a follow-up panel discussion along with 

Amayreh and Stephen Rohde, a constitutional lawyer and lecturer.

On February 2, the Council on American-Islamic Relations Greater Los Angeles
Area office (CAIR-LA) and the Muslim Students Association at California
State University, Fullerton will co-host a special screening of "The
Tortured: Stories of Survival," a documentary chronicling the journey of
five survivors of torture.

When: Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at 5:30 p.m (screening begins promptly at 6
p.m.)

Torture violates a human being's fundamental right to dignity and integrity,
and it is routinely practiced across the globe. Through this event, CAIR-LA
and its cosponsors seek to shed light on local services for victims of
torture and discuss policy-based efforts aimed at eliminating its practice.

 

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization.
Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue,
protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that
promote justice and mutual understanding.
