Black History Month Film Showing

Brother Outsider

Friday, February 8, 7pm

This award winning movie documents the life of Bayard Rustin, brilliant
strategist
and organizer often called the “unknown hero” of the Black civil rights
movement.
An early freedom rider and architect of the 1963 March on Washington, Rustin
dared to live as an openly gay man in the fiercely homophobic 1940s, ‘50s and
‘60s.  Material from decades of FBI files that portrayed Rustin as a “dangerous
subversive,” and from reminiscences of his key role bringing unions into the
civil rights battles of the day are central to this film.

An open mic after the film will focus on how to finally extend and win civil
and human rights for all.

A savory home cooked supper, with vegetarian option, will be served at 6 pm
for an $8 donation. Sliding scale & work exchanges available.  The program
will be held at Solidarity Hall, 2122 W. Jefferson Bl., Los Angeles, off the
10 freeway at Arlington, on bus lines 38 and 209.  Disabled accessible.

Sponsored by the Freedom Socialist Party.  For childcare or more information,
