.Venezuela Expels U.S. Embassy Officials . By EZEQUIEL MINAYA And KEJAL VYAS CARACAS—Venezuela said it was expelling two U.S. Embassy officials for plotting against the government, giving two air force members 24 hours to leave the country. Vice President Nicolás Maduro also said President Hugo Chávez's enemies poisoned him with the cancer he has battled for nearly two years. "Behind all of [the plots] are the enemies of the fatherland," Mr. Maduro said on state television Tuesday. Speculation surged earlier in the day that Venezuelan authorities were preparing to make a statement about the future in office of Mr.Chávez. On Monday, the government said Mr. Chávez had a "new and severe infection" that has caused his breathing problems to worsen following cancer surgery. Information minister, Ernesto Villegas, said the Venezuelan leader was receiving "strong impact chemotherapy among other complementary treatments," Mr. Villegas on national television. - Venezuela's vice president, Nicolas Maduro, says the government of President Hugo Chavez plans to expel a U.S. Embassy official for meeting with military officers and planning to destabilize the country. Maduro identified the American as the Air Force attache and said he had been spying on the military. He said the official has 24 hours to leave the country. Embassy spokesman Greg Adams identified the attache as David Delmonaco. Adams had no immediate comment. "I'm sure we will be formulating some sort of response from Washington," he said. He said he did not immediately know Delmonaco's rank. Maduro spoke hours after the government said Chavez was in "very delicate" health after undergoing cancer surgery in December. ------------------------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- LAAMN: Los Angeles Alternative Media Network --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe: <mailto:[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe: <mailto:[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Digest: <mailto:[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Help: <mailto:[email protected]?subject=laamn> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post: <mailto:[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archive1: <http://www.egroups.com/messages/laamn> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archive2: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]> --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yahoo!
