FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Jerry Rubin 310-399-1000 [email protected] PEACE ACTIVISTS JERRY AND MARISSA RUBIN WILL HOLD A PUBLIC "SUNFLOWER ANNIVERSARY VIGIL AND PEACE WALK" TO CELEBRATE THE 30th ANNIVERSARY OF THEIR "PUBLIC PEACE RALLY WEDDING" AND THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE LARGEST-EVER RALLY AGAINST NUCLEAR WEAPONS ON JUNE 12 AT THE 'CHILDREN'S TREE OF LIFE' AND THE 'CHAIN REACTION' PUBLIC ART PEACE SCULPTURE IN SANTA MONICA Date: Wednesday, June 12, 2013 Starting Time: 6:00 PM Location: Paul Conrad's 26-foot-tall 'Chain Reaction' public art peace sculpture Santa Monica Civic Center, Main Street just north of Pico. Blvd. The Rubin's will each place a sunflower, which has become the symbol for a world free of nuclear weapons, at the base of the monumental mushroom cloud sculpture that warns of the dangers of nuclear weapons. The Rubin's will then walk along Main Street to Colorado Blvd., then to Ocean Ave. Concluding Time: 6:30PM Location: Santa Monica Palisades Park at the 'Children's Tree of Life' Ocean Ave.& Colorado Blvd., just north of the Pier The Rubin's will each place another sunflower at the base of the tree, which was proclaimed a "living monument to world peace" by late Santa Monica Mayor Ken Edwards. The Rubin's planted the tree on Earth Day, April 22, 1983 and were married there on June 12, 1983 at their "Public Peace Rally Wedding" on the first anniversary of the largest-ever public rally against nuclear weapons, when more than a million people gathered in New York City's Central Park to speak out for peace and global nuclear disarmament. People are invited to join in the vigil and walk with the Rubin's, and to bring flowers to place at 'Chain Reaction' and the 'Children's Tree of Life'.
