Ending the Korean War: A Day of Action - Free Event!
Organized by United Methodist Women (UMW), this day will include a public
forum on the Korean crisis that examines the ongoing cost of militarization
of the Korean peninsula and the steps needed to replace the temporary
armistice treaty with a permanent peace treaty. The forum will look at how
the road to peace in Korea runs through Washington, DC, and how women and
the Korean Diaspora must steward it along the way.
The last in a series of events on the legacy of the Korean war on
generations of Koreans and Americans and the efforts being made to work for
peace on the Korean peninsula. This year, 2013, marks the 60th anniversary
of the signing of the Korean War Armistice, which brought a halt to the
fighting. However, the Korean War has never ended, and the current crisis
only emphasizes the danger of renewed hostilities.
