Dear Frank,
SOA Watch is on a roll, and you can help us keep the positive momentum going.
I am writing to you today to ask you for a donation
<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=4e8ccBSkbmG99hG8GRz42pogROeqEU0d>
to SOA Watch. Can you make a contribution of $50
<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=hzrhRl5EgfFny1%2FgD0j5fpogROeqEU0d>
to SOA Watch now so that our movement can continue its important work?
The culture of impunity for human rights abusers is one that you and I have
been fighting against for a long time now, and we're seeing some progress.
General Rios Montt, the School of the Americas trained former military dictator
of Guatemala, was sentenced on Friday to 80 years in prison for his role in the
killing of thousands during the genocide against the indigenous population.
Other SOA trained generals in Argentina have also been brought to justice for
their crimes. Six Latin American countries have denounced the SOA/ WHINSEC and
withdrawn their soldiers from the school.
Your contribution

will support our efforts to also hold those in the United States accountable,
who trained, armed and at times directed the human rights abusers who have
caused so much pain and suffering.
Another recent victory for SOA Watch is the lawsuit against the Pentagon to
disclose the names of all SOA/WHINSEC graduates and instructors. The judge
ruled that the Pentagon has no grounds for its secrecy. Naming the names of
those who attended and trained at this school of shame is vital to our struggle
for justice and truth.
The Pentagon and their allies will not give up easy, and U.S.-sponsored
military repression in Latin America is not a thing of the past. We are up
against a giant. The SOA/ WHINSEC is their way of controlling the armies - and
thus the people and their resources - in Latin America. Since the 2009 military
coup by SOA graduates in Honduras, we have seen a resurgence of death squad
activity in that country. The repressive Colombian military has increased the
number of soldiers it is sending to the school. The militarized 'War on Drugs'
in Mexico is killing thousands, and is driven by U.S.-trained soldiers on both
sides, some of whom have deserted the Mexican military in favor of a more
lucrative career in the cartels.
By working together in community, we can create a culture of justice and peace,
work for an end to impunity, and close the School of the Americas for good.

Together our movement has come a long way in its struggle for peace and
justice. The strength of SOA Watch has always been in its grassroots members.
I thank you for your support.
Gratefully,
