*Hezbollah Commander Claims 2000 Fighters in Aleppo Province*

A "senior commander" in Hezbollah has
said<http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle_east/hezbollah-boosting-assads-forces-in-northern-syria/2013/06/02/3bb59c7e-cb9e-11e2-8f6b-67f40e176f03_story.html?wprss=rss_middle-east>
that
about 2000 of its fighters are now stationed in Aleppo Province, mainly in
Shia towns north of Aelppo city.
Thousands of Lebanese Hezbollah militants were massed around the northern
Syrian city of Aleppo on Sunday, according to rebels and a senior commander
in the Lebanese Shiite movement, broadening Hezbollah’s backing of
President Bashar al-Assad’s forces and stoking fears of an imminent assault
on the city.

The Free Syrian Army has warned that Hezbollah, prominent in fighting in
Homs Province and near the Lebanese border, is gathering for support of a
regime attack on insurgent-held areas of Aleppo city.

Aleppo, Syria's largest city, has effectively been divided since insurgents
attacked and took neighbourhoods in July 2012.

“The Aleppo battle has started on a very small scale; we’ve only just
entered the game,” said the Hezbollah commander --- on leave from fighting
near the besieged town of Qusayr, on the Lebanon border --- in an interview
in Beirut on Saturday. “We are going to go after strongholds where they
think they are safe. They are going to fall like dominoes.”

He said the fighters were largely concentrated around the Shiite towns of
Zahra and Nubol. A spokesman for Hezbollah said he could not confirm or
deny their presence.

Louay al-Mokdad, political and media coordinator for the Free Syrian Army,
said Hezbollah militants had gathered at a military academy in Aleppo’s
western district of Hamdaniyah. He put the number of soldiers in the area
at 4000.

*Casualties*

The Local coordination Committees claim that 79 people were killed on
Sunday, including 29 in Damascus and its suburbs, 15 in Aleppo Province,
and 14 in Daraa Province.

The Violations Documentation Center
<https://www.vdc-sy.info/index.php/en/> reports
that 62,545 people have been killed in the Syrian conflict since March
2011, an increase of 128 from Sunday. Of the deaths, 48,407 were civilians,
a rise of 54 from yesterday.

The Crime of #Qusayr #Qusair, #Syria #RescueQusair

If 1500 injured people were trapped in a mine somewhere with more than ten
thousand other living souls trapped with them, it would be all over the
news and help would be streaming in from every part of the globe.

If a natural disaster or industrial accident was threating the lives of so
many people, the world would be holding its breath while it watched
rescuers assembled from many nations save the still living and return the
dead to their families.

What is happening in Qusayr is not a natural disaster or industrial
accident. It is a government willing to use mass slaughter as a method to
regain control over people in an area that had freed themselves from that
murderous control over a year ago, and because it is what it is, and
because some people are fighting back, they can call it a battle, ignore
the massive civilian suffering, and generally pretend that what has been
happening in Qusayr is not simply murder.

This blog post will not attempt to update you on the current state of that
struggle or even catalog the many atrocities of the Assad regime and its
Hezbollah allies around Qusayr. I will provide some links to information of
that type at the end.

The crime to which my title refers is one of *criminal neglect* and it is
shared by all those that ignore what is happening while everyday more
people are being murdered. This especially applies to those in the media
who march forward in *"battledress"* what little news they tell on Qusayr
and fail to report the wanton attacks by one side to this *"battle"* on a
surrounded civilian population.

It applies even more to the governments that have the power to lift the
siege of Qusayr and do nothing. EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton,
speaking of the future, warns <http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/73063.aspx> the
killers there will be *"no impunity for the perpetrators"*. She should be
so bold and honest as to admit that, for the present, there will also be no
interference with the commission of their crimes.
