There will be an inter-faith speakout and prayer service in solidarity with the
California prison hunger strikers, featuring a number of religious figures from
different faith traditions and communities, on Thursday, August 8 (which marks
the start of the second month of the hunger strike, with hundreds of prisoners
still fasting). It will take place at 12:30 PM outside the Reagan State Office
Building, 300 S. Spring Street in downtown Los Angeles. Additional clergy are
invited to participate, and the public is urged to participate, as well as to
flood Gov. Brown with calls demanding that he accede to the hunger strikers'
five core demands (against collective punishment, for an end to indefinite
solitary confinement, and for a path out of isolation without "debriefing,"
naming someone else who would end up in the SHU in your place). Please forward
widely. Prolonged isolation is torture!
