Mecca and Etana Shakur are two sister comrades from the Black Riders Liberation Party (BRLP), new generation Black Panther Party for Self-Defense. They are facing frame-up charges in Inglewood stemming from their defending themselves against a racist assault while campaigning in their community at a shopping center. As a result, they were arrested and charged with battery on a police officer. At their first court hearing, the BRLP and supporters had to face off an effort by bailiffs and sheriffs to prevent supporters from entering the courtroom. With strong community support and a strong show by the Riders posted up outside the courthouse, we succeeded in entering the courthouse and packing the courtroom. The sisters pleaded not guilty and a motion was filed to dismiss some of the charges. The next court date is Wednesday, September 18 at 8:30 AM at the Inglewood Courthouse (part of LA Superior Court), One Regent Street, Inglewood (1 block south of Florence between La Brea and Fir). We want an even stronger show of support to get the state to back off these false charges. The BRLP is also raising legal defense and education funds for Mecca and Etana Shakur so that the sisters can have their chosen lawyers, not just public defenders, and to educate the community about this attempt to imprison two stalwart sisters, both mothers, for their revolutionary African Inter-communal consciousness and political beliefs. Please spread the word to all your friends and allies to come out to court and to donate to this righteous cause.
