Gov. Brown: Close the assault weapons loophole by signing SB 374 News From Sacramento Gov. Brown: Close the Assault Weapons Loophole Take Action! Please sign SB 374, Assault Weapons Law Reform As the toll of mass shootings continues to rise, some say we are becoming "used to it" and complacent about addressing gun violence. Nothing could be further from the truth. Instead, concerned Californians are increasing their activism and their support of legislation like SB 374, which closes a loophole in existing law. We need your voice. Please join us and ask Gov. Brown to sign SB 374. SB 374 simplifies and strengthens California’s assault weapons law by prohibiting the future sale or transfer of semi-automatic centerfire rifles that can accept detachable magazines. (A detachable magazine is the key military-style feature that enables the rapid reload and continuous fire of bullets that can kill many people very quickly.) If Gov. Brown signs SB 374 into law, semi-automatic centerfire rifles will be required to have fixed magazines that accept ten or fewer rounds. People who already own centerfire rifles with detachable magazines that they acquired after January 2001 will be required to submit a Firearm Ownership Record to the Department of Justice. Please take action and send the governor a message right now.
