Hi, Jeff! 
I've had a labradoodle for 1 1/2 years and he's GREAT! See his 
pictures at yahoo labradoodles - he's "Finley"
Labradoodles are the dog for you if you have the space (they love to 
run) and if you have time for them - just be sure you take them to 
obedience school - they can be dominant and you need to keep them in 
control - they'll never hurt anyone - they're very friendly - they 
just need to know who's in charge and what they're allowed to do (just 
like any dog).
I'd make sure your labradoodle is at least a second generation dog - 
the first generation may not be a good mix and will shed and not be 
fully allergy-free.
Go with a breeder, not a puppymill. Ask a lot of questions.
