Now, that didn't answer your question at all, but it's my understanding that 
the conception is:
Americans breed poodles and labs.
Australians, in the true sense, have created their own breed as described above.
Now, in reading some posts, I'm getting the idea that maybe some of the 
Australians are breeding poodle to lab, so the waters are getting muddied 
indeed.
