That new scheme is, indeed, much superior to the old apache based system; but still in active testing and development. Right now, you can tweak any aspect of the webservice by configuring the lighttpd directly with ~/.lighttpd.conf -- and the documentation for that can be found at the lighttpd website: http://redmine.lighttpd.net/projects/lighttpd/wiki/WikiStart#Reference-Documentation but admitedly that presumes you have some familiarity with many of the underlying concept; that is why there is a "cookbook" section on that webpage for common tasks that will be filled up as time allows.
