Update: This is in progress now. So far, the pauses that instances are
experiencing have been quite brief (seconds rather than minutes.)

reboots -- that means that each VM should experience a minute or two
(or three) of hesitation but should not register any reboots.
If this goes badly and it turns out that actual reboots are needed
I will reschedule the maintenance for a later date with more notice.
For now, though, no action is required from any of you.
