No, that's not odd at all ;-)
The problem is that the commit mails come from your @apache.org email,
and just like any mail from a non-subscribed address they need to be
moderated before they'll go through to the list (and thus the
archives).
This is the same thing that happens with any commits mailing list at
apache, at least any that I've been involved with.
Oh geez, that makes sense. I'll unsubscribe commits@ from my work
address and subscribe with my apache address (it gets forwarded anyway).
