I think that's indeed the core problem, and personally I don't care about what's been discussed on mailing lists about code provenance. It's svn revision numbers, combined with commit messages, that must tell us who wrote what. It seems like your commit 886691 contains code from several authors, is that the case? If yes, it has to be reverted and split into smaller commits, each containing code from a single author. I'd say the final goal is for "svn annotate" to tell us who the author of each line of code is, based on the revision numbers.
