Talking about threads, (I have shifted this contribution to Chat, as I am
not sure whether it was purely Lace......) I have returned from a day out at
the Wymondham (Norfolk, UK) Lace Day. The day started out not-too-well, as
I tripped down the last couple of stairs at home, and have a large and
uncomfortable lump on my head, and I also wore my driving glasses, and
forgot to take my 'ordinary bi-focals', so I could see everyone perfectly
across the room, but had a hard time recognising anyone right next to me - I
have probably offended a large number of the citizens of Norfolk, not to
mention Suffolk and Essex! However, to get back to the 'thread' thread,
the speaker was Susan Peck of Pipers Silks. A lot of you will, like me,
have extremely fond memories of Sue's father Jack Piper, and the company
goes from strength to strength.

But - the reason for writing is that if you get the chance to hear Susan
talk on the family business and silk, from moth to the finished article on
the spool on Sue's stand, then take it! They have threads finer than a
hair, to quite sizeable gimp thread-size, and the array of colour is
wonderful. Sue is also a mine of information on what sizes of thread are
comparable to cotton, linen, etc., and she is always willing to exchange
unused cops for a different colour, should our descriptions of what we want
be unintelligible at first - "I'd like a sort of greyish-blueish pink
......" etc.

So - tired, and with a thumping headache, I have had a most enjoyable day,
and recommend Sue's talk, if you get the opportunity to hear her!

Carol - in East Anglia, where it has been a hot and sunny day.
