I don't exactly know what sneakers are, but for children in the UK trainers
have to be the "right" brand in fashion at the time whether Nike, Reebok,
Adidas or whatever so long as they're very expensive.

I only wear trainers. According to the hospital podiatrist they're the best
thing invented for feet. Very well cushioned on the sole and particularly
the heel, foot-shaped and they encase and support the feet properly. The
amount and type of cushioning on the sole can vary. Nike did some which had
air in the soles, and you could pump them up or deflate them a bit if you
wanted. The hospital removes the insole that comes with the trainers and
makes me extra padded and shaped ones to go in each pair I have.

Different trainers are available for different activities - my husband has
some specially designed for jogging which have a very deep tread and flared
soles at the heel, I had some designed for aerobics which have very little
tread. I
just go for leather Reeboks in any style I like with well-cushioned soles
and middle of the range price, but keep a pair with little cushioning in the
sole for driving - I can't feel the pedals in the ones I wear for walking.

I bought a pair of sandals with cushioned soles and showed the podiatrist.
is comment was "Very nice, but you're not proposing to walk anywhere in them
are you?" I do wear them if I'm going somewhere where trainers wouldn't look
quite right.
